Co-founder and Clinical LeadNicole has practised clinical social work for over 25 years, licensed in North Carolina, Georgia and the District of Columbia. She holds a PhD from the Institute for Clinical Social Work.
Alongside her clinical practice, she provides supervision and training to provisionally licensed social workers — the same people preparing for these exams. That work is where Licensed to Serve came from: years of watching capable clinicians struggle with a test that doesn’t measure what they can actually do.
Nicole leads content development and oversees clinical review of every lesson and rationale on the platform.
Why we built this
This started with a pattern we couldn’t ignore.
Colleagues — capable, experienced social workers who were good at the actual work — kept failing the licensing exam. Not once. Twice, three times. They had bought the courses. They had watched the videos, worked the question banks, paid for the extensions. And they were still walking out of testing centres not knowing what had gone wrong.
Spend any time in the social work forums and you’ll see the same story repeated hundreds of times: people who studied hard, using well-reviewed programs, who failed anyway and couldn’t say why. The common thread wasn’t effort or knowledge. It was that nothing they used told them what specifically to fix.
